Starting with CPG leader Unilever in India, Damodar is amongst the early stage professionals to steer modernising retail in India. Through his various leadership assignments, he has shaped original retail concepts and consumer product brands.

Damodar is a keen observer of consumer and shopper behaviour. His usual allies include sociologists, ethnographres and design professionals. Micro entrepreneurship phenomenon in India is also his field of study and work.

Big Bazaar is a retail format that has worked well in Tier 2 & 3 towns as well. Damodar is now leading the group’s efforts at taking modern retail to semi-urban markets through Aadhaar and also developing micro-entrepreneur based business, through franchising.
